Standing Stone Vineyards Chardonnay Ice 2008

Tala Bistro has been open for less than a month and we found out upon asking for the desert menu that they still are without a written menu as of yet, that along with the desert/digestif menu was “coming soon”. Our waitress told us that she knew they had a port and a Canadian Ice Wine, so I enthusiastically asked for the Ice Wine. When she brought it out I realized that it was clearly not Canadian, but I’m generally always up for an adventure so I gave it a go. Standing Stone Vineyards was founded by Tom and Marti Macinski in 1991. The 41 acre estate is located on the eastern side of Seneca Lake in New York State. They were inspired to become winemakers because they “believe that the Finger Lakes region can grow wines that are among the best in the world”.

Bright gold in colour, aromas of melon, apricot and honeysuckle rose from the glass. Candied apricot and pineapple flavours abounded in the full body, whilst rich honey notes lingered decadently between each sip. Rich and smooth, this is a lovely accompaniment with desert or assorted cheese such as Chèvre or Roquefort.
