Estate: Located in Dogliani, just south of Barolo, in Piedmont, Francesco Boschis planted vines beginning in 1919. Today the estate is headed by Mario and Simona Boschis with their children Marco, Paolo and Chiara. Outside of the family, there are no other employees. “The family prefers to keep their property small and to concentrate on the vineyards that are most suitable for Dolcetto and for the other varieties that are grown, such as Grignolino, Freisa and Barbera.” The estate is known for their complex, powerful, age worthy wines.
The watercolors and engravings on the labels are from local artist Teresita Terreno. Each label depicts a particular season and distinctive feature of the family’s land.
Winemaking: Organic, sustainable viticulture, beehives flank the 11 hectares of vineyards. Vines planted in 1960 & 1970, calcareous soils at 500 meters in elevation. Native yeast spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel, aged in wood casks for 10 months, unfiltered. 375 cases produced.
Tasting Notes: Blackberry, red currant, bramble, earth, trace of chocolate framed by bright acidity and Ceylon tea tannins. A fruit and spice fusion on the clean, sleek finish. Precise, plush.
