Domaine Tatsis Malagouzia Macedonia PGI 2016

Estate: Near the Macedonia and Thrace border in northern Greece, brothers Stergios and Periklis Tatsis farm 32 acres of vineyards. Unlike many other vineyards comprising mostly international varieties in Goumenissa, the brothers staunchly emphasize native grapes, such as Negoska and Malagouzia.

Winemaking: Organic, biodynamic. Vines are in mostly calcareous sandy-loam soils at 1000 feet. Hand-harvested, spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts, skin maceration for 30 days, aged for 12 months in large, old oak barrels. Unfined, unfiltered, no added SO2.

Tasting Notes: Peach, apricot, tangerine, chamomile, saline minerality framed by tangy acidity and bergamot tea tannins. Peach, citrus zest, thyme infuse the almond finish. Gallant, energetic.
