Scarpa ‘Casa Scarpa’ Barbera d’Asti DOCG 2017

Estate: Founded by Antonio Scarpa in 1854, purchased by the Pesce family in the mid 20th century, the reputation for elegant wines was established by visionary winemaker Mario Pesce in the 1970’s. Located on the border between Castel Rocchero and Acqui Terme, the 50 hectares are divided nearly equally between vineyards and forests/fields in order to preserve biodiversity.

Winemaking: Organic viticulture, vines are 350-400 meters in elevation, limestone, clay and loam soils. Aged in stainless steel 12-24 months.

Tasting Notes: Blackberry, blueberry, red currant, black pepper, vanilla framed by bright acidity and silky tannins. Tangy cherry, trace of dark chocolate linger between each supple sip. Genteel, plush, gluggable.
