Julien Altaber ‘Skinbull’ Mousseux Extra Brut 2020

Winery: Born into a family of dairy farmers, Julien Altaber began his winemaking education in Mâconnais and Beaujolais. In 2002, he found a home with biodynamic pioneers Catherine and Dominique Derain in Saint Aubin, Côte de Beaune. In 2007, with the assistance of the Derains, he was able to establish his own winery, Domaine Sextant, in St. Aubin.

Winemaking: Farming is low intervention, organic and biodynamic, with a “hands-off cellar work” approach. Vines are in clay and limestone soils, native yeast spontaneous fermentation with 2 weeks skin maceration in stainless steel. Second fermentation in bottle, unfined, unfiltered, no added sulphur.

Tasting Notes: Tangerine, nectarine, pear, candied ginger, sandalwood, fresh acidity buoyed by rolling fizz. Jasmin green tea tannins fuse with candied orange peel and a trace of roasted nuts on the mineral finish. Luscious, electric.
