Diego Conterno Dolcetto d’Alba DOC 2020

Estate: With a family winemaking history in southern Barolo dating back to the end of WWII, Diego Conterno, along with his cousins, founded the Conterno-Fantino estate in 1982. Driven to craft wines that are an expression of the land and people of Monforte d’Alba, he left that estate and founded his own in 2000. His 7.5 estate [certified organic] includes his family’s 2 hectares of vineyards in the Ginestra cru. His son Stefano has been working alongside him since 2010.

Winemaking: Hand harvested, from west-facing vines 10-55 years old in ‘Bricco Monguglielmo’ at 1500 feet in elevation, with clay and limestone marl soils. Destemmed, spontaneous native yeast fermentation in temperature-controlled steel tanks. Aged 6 months in a combination of steel and cement tanks.

Tasting Notes: Raspberry, grape, black cherry, pomegranate, white pepper, bramble framed by silky tannins and fresh acidity. Black cherry, trace of cinnamon infuse the distinctive bitter almond finish. Well-balanced, poised, sleek.
