Petracavallo Negroamaro Rosato Puglia IGP 2020

Estate: The Petracavallo property dates back to around 1220, and as one would expect, its history is filled with the stuff of legends; saints, barons, bandits, unexplained phenomenon. Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Vito D’Onghia is now the caretaker of this unique land in Mottola, a few kilometers from the Gulf of Taranto in Puglia. He is dedicated to crafting wines using organic and traditional methods, with minimal intervention.

Philosophy: “To produce a wine that is expression of the territory in which it develops, treating the earth and the vineyard with the utmost respect”.

Winemaking: Vines are 18 years old, in calcareous/clay soils. Spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts and on the skins for 20 hours in stainless steel. Aged for 6 months in stainless steel, unfined, unfiltered, no SO2. 2000 bottles produced.

Tasting Notes: Black cherry, black currant, raspberry, pomegranate, bramble flanked by tangy acidity and light black tea tannins. Hibiscus and strawberry accent the black currant finish. Sleek, super fruity and gluggable.
