Estate: Another rebel in the pioneering wine movement in Lazio is Marco Colicchio. His 1.5 hectares of vineyards are located at the foot of the volcanic Colli Albani [Alban Hills] in Castelli Romani, about 12 miles southeast of Roma. Revitalizing old, abandoned vineyards of native grapes, he is dedicated to low intervention, chemical free viticulture and winemaking.
Winemaking: Malvasia Puntinata vines are in predominantly calcareous soils, spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts on the skins, unfined, unfiltered, no added SO2. ‘DeLiCa’ is an acronym of “de li Castelli”.
Tasting Notes: Lemon, thyme, sea spray, jasmine, yellow apple, saline minerality glossed by super light, green tea tannins and fresh acidity. Citrus zest accents the smoky finish. Refreshing and lively.
