Estate: In the 1950’s, Luigi Pira began selling his grapes and wine to négociants and wineries in Alba. In the early 1990’s his son Gianpaolo took the reins and began bottling the estate’s wines, his first Barolo vintage was 1993. Today his brothers Romolo and Claudio work alongside him. Located in the commune of Serralunga d’Alba, in the eastern part of Barolo, the 12 hectares of Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera vineyards are farmed using organic and sustainable methods.
Winemaking: Vines are 30+ years in age, in a 2 hectare vineyard in the commune of Serralunga d’Alba, northwestern exposure, with limestone and clay soils, at 330 meters in elevation. Aged in stainless steel 8-9 months.
Tasting Notes: Plush layers of blackberry, red current, plum, rhubarb, herbs glide atop fine grain tannins. Dark chocolate and pomegranate infuse the distinctive bitter finish. Well balanced, well structured, always a fantastic value.
