Estate: In 1860, Secondo Crivelli settled in Castagnole Monferrato and began making wine. The wine was sold to a local cooperative until 1979, when his great grandson, Marco Crivelli started bottling the estate’s wines. He also expanded the property by 8 hectares and purchased the famous ‘Montio Hill’ parcel. Passionate about preservation of the land and the area’s indigenous grapes, especially Ruchè, Marco served as President of the Ruchè consortium and is responsible for the area being recognized with DOCG status in 2010. His son Jonathan is now taking over in the vineyards, whilst Marc concentrates on marketing and sales.
Philosophy: “We try with all our possibilities to safeguard the environment, ourselves – workers in the vineyard and the consumer.”
Winemaking: Grapes are from organic and sustainably farmed vines in limestone and sandy soil, fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks.
Tasting Notes: Garnet in colour, with aromas of strawberry, raspberry, elderflower liqueur, wildflowers, warm summer earth. Fine grain tannins gild raspberry, pomegranate, blackberry, rose petal black pepper and fresh acidity. Strawberry and red currant infuse the spicy finish. Silky, clean and bright.
