Estate: Located near the dormant volcano dome of Puy de Dôme, in Volvic, central France, Vincent Marie passionately cultivates 5 hectares of vines with biodynamic, organic and low intervention principles. The diverse terroir from the ancient volcano allows him to craft 5-7 cuvées from his small estate. His wines are famed for their purity and eloquence.
Philosophy: “To make pure, fresh, generous wines of high drinkability.”
Winemaking: Vines are 50 years old in volcanic soils with granite sands, 500 meters in elevation. Whole bunch are trampled in fiberglass vats, spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts, 3 week maceration. 50% aged in tank, 50% in 23hl cask, unfiltered, no added SO2. Named after the large rocks of Volvic’s hillside; called ‘Rochaille’ which evolved into ‘Rockaille Billy’.
Tasting Notes: Red-violet in colour, with aromas of violet, rose, bramble, iron minerality, black cherry, blueberry jam. Fine grain tannins and tangy acidity flank black cherry, blueberry, pomegranate, forest floor and iron minerality. A wisp of cedar smoke, green and black olive, black pepper, cherry and lavender infuse the velveteen finish. Dynamic, dashing and engaging.
