Estate: In 2005, visionary winemaker Xavier Weisskopf was able to an estate with a 15th century stone cellar and 9 hectares of old vines [planted before WWII] in Montlouis “an underappreciated historic appellation” of the Loire Valley. He has since acquired about 4 additional hectares of old vines in Touraine.
Philosophy: “To make wines of clarity and focus.”
Winemaking: The estate is certified organic. Hand harvested grapes are from declassified Montlouis vineyards in limestone and silex soils, with an average vine age of 60+ years. Spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, 90% aged in steel tank, 10% in large old barrels.
Tasting Notes: Gold in colour, with aromas of lemon, summer woods, chalky minerality, white flowers, citrus zest. Silky layers of lemon, pineapple, pear, ginger and a floral trace pair with bracing acidity. Flinty minerality, lemon and citrus zest linger between each gleaming sip.
