Estate: Wife and husband Barbara and Giuseppe Pusceddu founded Meigamma in 2006 with the goal of crafting wines with as little intervention as possible. Embracing a “slow life” philosophy, Meigamma in the Sardinian dialect means “after lunch nap”. Located 600 meters from the sea in Villasimius in southeastern Sardinia, the just over 1 hectare of native grape vineyards are nestled in olive groves, gardens and beehives.
Winemaking: Vines are in sandy, clay soils. Spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts, aged on the fine lees in 20 hectoliters old oak barrels. Hand harvested, unfined, unfiltered, no added S02.
Tasting Notes: Dark red-violet in colour, with aromas of black currant, licorice, wildflowers, cherry, sun warmed earth, trace of baking spice. Blackberry, red currant, black cherry, licorice and black pepper are framed by fresh acidity and firm tannins. Morello cherry and hazelnut linger between each plush sip.
