Estate: In 1999, 3rd generation winemaker Antoine Joly, along with his wife Laurence, began running his family’s estate [his father Pierre pioneered organic viticulture in the area]. Located in the Southern Rhone valley, between Provence and the foothills of the Alps, the 18 hectares of vineyards traditionally supplied local cooperatives. Since 2003, Antoine and Laurence have bottled their own wines, becoming renowned for their purity of fruit and freshness.
Winemaking: Viticulture is organic and biodynamic. Hand harvested grapes are from a 4hectare vineyard with vines 25 years average age, with limestone, clay and silt soils. Spontaneous fermentation in concrete tanks with wild yeasts, aged 6-8 months in concrete, unfined, unfiltered with minimal SO2.
Tasting Notes: Inky red violet in colour, with aromas of wild berry jam, baking spices, black currant, earth. Black currant, blueberry, blackberry, red currant, eucalyptus, black pepper are flanked by tangy acidity and silky tannins. Black currant and cocoa powder infuse the iron mineral driven finish. Cozy and lush.
