Estate: Perched across steep terraced hills in western Liguria, Bruna was founded in 1970 by visionary winemaker Riccardo Bruna. The first winemaker in the Arroscia Valley to bottle Pigato from historic family vineyards, Riccardo Bruna was dedicated to the development of Pigato [the area’s unique biotype of Vermentino] and crafting wines that express Pigato’s typicity. His daughters Francesca [along with her husband Roberto] and Annamaria faithfully carry on the commitment to grape and land. The 7.5 hectare estate is farmed organically and with minimal intervention, vineyards grow in harmony with Mediterranean scrub, olive and oak trees.
Winemaking: Grapes are from the estate’s younger vines, less than 50 years old, in limestone and fossil rich, white and blue clay soils at 210-260 meters above sea level. Aged in stainless steel tanks on the lees for 5 months. ‘Majé’ is the word for the area’s stone terraces in the Ligurian dialect.
Tasting Notes: Light gold in colour, with aromas of lemon, herbs and sea spray. Lemon, yellow apple, saline minerality and a floral trace are glossed by fresh acidity. An energizing play between citrus and salty notes underscore the crisp finish. Bright, agile, well balanced and super gluggable.
