Estate: Angelo Sega along with his sons Luca and Matteo farm 6 hectares of vineyards on steep, terraced slopes in San Giacomo di Teglio, northern Lombardy, just south of the Swiss border. Dedicated to ancient winemaking traditions, Chiavennasca [Nebbiolo] and listening to the land, everything at the estate is done by hand. Farming is organic with minimal intervention from the vineyards to the cellar. In addition to the preservation of their ancient biotype of Chiavennasca, the trio is also renowned for their fabulous, boy band-esque dancing on their Instagram page.
Philosophy: “In our wine we express the vintages with their oddities and their balances, always different and always unpredictable. Every season we repeat ancient gestures, carrying on the identity of an Alpine people that has always been linked to the cultivation of Chiavennasca.”
Winemaking: Grapes are from vineyards at 400-750 meters above sea level. Spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts in stainless steel and concrete, aged in old barrels for 9 months, unfiltered. The label depicts a Neolithic rock engraving from the Valtellina area.
Tasting Notes: Ruby red in colour, with aromas of black cherry, rose petal, forest floor and a hint of coconut. Cherry, strawberry, white pepper, pristine minerality and herbs are framed by firm tannins and fresh acidity. Licorice and black cherry linger between each silky sip. Eloquent and sleek.
