Estate: Husband and wife team Gianmarco Antonuzzi and Clémentine Bouveron revitalized around 14 hectares of abandoned land in Gradoli, Gianmarco’s childhood town. The property faces Lake Bolsena and is on the border between Lazio and Tuscany. Vines [many ungrafted] are set amongst olive groves, chestnut and oak trees. Farming is low intervention, using biodynamic and organic principles [certified]. The volcanic soil is rich in iron and minerals.
Winemaking: Grapes are from a “blend of three parcels of various ages, elevations and expositions, harvested individually. The grapes are destemmed and spend ten days on skins, followed by a year in old chestnut casks.”
Tasting Notes: Hazy red-violet in colour, with aromas of red currant, black cherry, forest floor, candied violet, peppery spice, black olive and cherry pit. Morello cherry, wild strawberry, black cherry, red currant, saline minerals and white pepper are flanked by tangy acidity and black tea tannins. Dusty iron-earth minerality and black olive underscore the fruity finish. Snappy, sprightly, silky.
Sangiovese, “with small amounts of Ciliegiolo, Colorino, Canaiolo and Vaiano”
