Estate: Since 1989 Francois Villard has been making wine in the northern Rhône. Beginning with only a few hectares, he now owns 40 hectares in multiple crus and purchases grapes from another 24. He farms organically and sustainably and is on track to be certified organic in 2022.
Winemaking: Grapes are sourced from young vines in “several villages including: Chavanay, Ardoix, Saint-Michel-sur-Rhône, and Verin, all with a decomposed granite soils”.
Tasting Notes: Transparent dark garnet in colour, with aromas of black cherry, red currant, raspberry, hibiscus, wildflowers, saline minerality and Rolls Royce funk. Blackberry, red currant, pomegranate, trace of dark chocolate and fresh acidity glide across firm black tea tannins. Black currant, smoky minerality, black pepper and black olive linger on the savoury finish. Silky, layered, agile.
