Flavio Roddolo ‘Ravera’ Barolo DOCG 2011

Estate: Flavio Roddolo is an icon of traditional Piemonte winemaking. Although flying very far under the radar, his wines are renowned as “a reflection of the Monforte terroir and of the man who makes them”. He uses biodynamic and organic methods along with minimal intervention in his 6 hectares of vineyards. He only releases his wines when he believes them ready, 2011 is his currant Barolo release.

Winemaking: Grapes are from the Ravera di Monforte MGA, from vines 30 years in age. Fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel, aged 24 months in oak of various sizes, unfiltered and unclarified. 3000 bottles produced.

Tasting Notes: Transparent brick garnet in colour, with aromas of strawberry, black cherry, raspberry, sandalwood, rose petal and dusty earth. Flavours echo the aromas, with a rich tarry minerality patina over black cherry, strawberry, raspberry, rose petal, black pepper and fresh acidity. Muscular tannins integrate with black cherry, black currant and a wisp of cigar box spice on the velvety finish. Sublime powerful, precise, expressive.
