Estate: The Grosjean family has been farming in the high elevation of the Alps in northwestern Italy since the 1700’s. In 1969 Dauphin Grosjean presented his wine at the local “wine expo” and was awarded many accolades, thereby inspiring the entire family to devote themselves to the production of wine, and the vineyards were expanded. His 5 sons followed in his footsteps, acquiring land for a total of 16 hectares of vineyards and building a new winery. Today, the 3rd generation is heading the solar powered, biodynamic and certified organic estate.
Winemaking: Vines are at 800 meters in elevation [the estate’s highest vineyard], with sand, pebbles and small amounts of silt soils. Fermentation on the skins for 8 days with native yeasts, aged 6-7 months in steel.
Tasting Notes: Coral ruby in colour, with aromas of strawberry, cherry, bramble, candied rose petal, and a wisp of sweet smoke. Strawberry, pomegranate, raspberry, red currant, nectarine, a trace of sweet herbs and tangy acidity are accented by silky Darjeeling tea tannins. A wisp of sweet, smoky earth minerality lingers with raspberry and rose petal on the sleek finish. Elegant, sublime, just spectacular.
