budget friendly estate bottled italy low intervention

Ascheri ‘Gusto della Solidarietà’ Verduno Pelaverga DOC 2018

Estate: Founded in the early 19th century in La Morra, Giacomo Ascheri Cellars became known for their distinctive vine cultivation method that was considered quite modern for the time. In 1880, the family moved the winery to Bra, and over the years has expanded its holdings to include vineyards in Serralunga d’Alba and Verduno. Matteo Ascheri is the 6th generation of his family to head the estate.

‘Gusto della Solidarietà’ or ‘taste of solidarity’ is a project of cooperation between profit and non for-profit companies. Founded in 2004, companies can volunteer their time or donate their products. 10% of this wine is donated by Ascheri to the project, the label displays the logo and colours of the project.

Philosophy: “The decision to limit the use of technology, the influence of the wood and the contribution of additives is functional to have as clear an expression as possible of the vineyard, of the grape variety and of our own ideas.”

Tasting Notes: Transparent garnet in colour, with aromas of black cherry, strawberry, raspberry, wisp of smoke and sun warmed brick. Cherry, strawberry, white pepper, earth and a trace of licorice fuse with fresh acidity and firm tannins. Berries accent the spicy finish. A straightforward synthesis of fruit and spice.
