Estate: Located in the ancient hamlet of Palazzone, near Siena, Giacomo Mori is a small family owned winery founded by the Mori family in 1790. The family sold their grapes and wine to local cooperatives until the mid 1990’s when Giacomo Mori renovated the vineyards and cellars and began estate bottling his own wines. Giacomo practices organic and sustainable methods in both the 10 hectares of vineyards and winery.
Winemaking: Vines are in sandy, clay soils. Spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel for 20-25 days, aged 1 year in 500L French oak tonneaux (20% new) and a second year in 25HL casks, followed by 6-10 months in the bottle before release. 585 cases produced.
Tasting Notes: Red violet in colour, with aromas of cherry, black currant, forest floor, toasted oak and cigar box spice. Black cherry, pomegranate, blackberry, black pepper, and a trace of roasted thyme are framed by grippy tannins and fresh acidity. Cherry compote, toasted oak, anise seed, vanilla, white pepper and cigar box spice infuse the plush finish. Velvety and rich.
