Estate: One of the oldest estates in Rust, Burgenland, Michael Wenzel is the 12th generation of his family making wine from the 11 hectares of vineyards. The 16th century cellar of the estate is now a museum dedicated to the history of winemaking in the region. Michael is committed to organic and minimal intervention in both the vineyards and cellar.
Philosophy: “We live on wine and it by us. We can only contribute our part. And give the wine time. Give nature its space. You don’t have to understand everything.”
Winemaking: Vines are in limestone soils, spontaneously fermented with wild yeasts in stainless steel, aged in neutral oak casks, unfined, unfiltered.
Tasting Notes: Red-violet in colour, with aromas of blackberry, strawberry, black cherry, earth, peppery spice and a floral trace. Silky tannins frame black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, pomegranate, herbs and fresh acidity. Cranberry, earth and white pepper infuse the finish. Agile, sleek, engaging.
