Bloomer Creek ‘Pet Nat Skin Fermented Riesling’ Finger Lakes 2019

Estate: With 10 acres in 2 different designations on the west side of Cayuga Lake, Kim Engle and his wife Debra Bermingham founded Bloomer Creek in 1999. In 2012 they purchased a vineyard on the east side of Seneca Lake that had been abandoned for 30 years. The duo has pioneered organic and minimal intervention winemaking in the Finger Lakes region, for a closer look, check out their producer page at Jenny & François Selections here.

Philosophy: “The Hermit lives on the mountain. He is plain and joyful. A handful of rice and water from the spring suffice him. Still he has kept his wine cup.” – Chinese poet Li Po

Winemaking: Fermented with wild yeasts, 5 months skin contact; 4 months in stainless steel, 1 month in neutral oak, then transferred to the bottle to finish fermentation. Unfined, unfiltered; not disgorged, no added SO2.

Tasting Notes: Orange gold in colour, with aromas of lemon zest, orange creamsicle, yellow apple, hay, ginger and wet clay. Red apple, cinnamon, honey, ginger, lemon and fresh acidify are buoyed by light, consistent fizz. Baked pear and citrus zest gloss the mineral driven finish. Fun and super gluggable.
