Estate: Located in the rugged hills of Maremma, near the Tuscan coast in Italy, Ampeleia is the passion project of 3 friends; pioneering winemaker Elisabetta Foradori, Thomas Widmann and Giovanni Podini. With the concept of capturing the diversity and magnitude of the land, the vines in Ampeleia intentionally grow in different areas with a range of altitudes and soils. This allows each vineyard plot to express its distinctive personality.
Philosophy: “Ampeleia wines seek to bring into your glass the simple and honest taste of Roccatederighi’s inherent diversity by observing, becoming aware and understanding its profound character.”
Winemaking: All vineyards are certified biodynamic and organic. As little as possible human intervention in the winery, with only indigenous yeasts used. Grapes are from vineyards in Roccatederighi, with “clay/sandy/limestone soils characterized by a dark-red colour and round pebbles”. Whole cluster Alicante grapes “are left to infuse in the must of Carignano” for 12 days, aged for 6 months in concrete tanks. This is the first Rosato from the estate.
Tasting Notes: Coral pink in colour, with aromas of cherry, strawberry and wildflowers. Strawberry, melon, red currant and tangy acidity fuse with hazelnut, cranberry and a squeeze of lime on the tantalizing finish. Agile and super gluggable.
