Estate: Located in the steep hillsides of the Treiso commune in Piemonte, the Nada estate was founded in 1900. The family have 6 hectares of vineyards in two of the most historical crus in Barbaresco, Casot and Marcarini. Giuseppe and Nella Nada still work in the vineyards, while their son Enrico has had the winemaking reigns since 2008. The estate was certified organic in 2017.
Winemaking: Grapes are from vines planted between 1960-2012 in the Casot cru, located 350 meters in elevation, the 3.5 hectares of vines face southwest. From the US importer Bowler Wine: “Spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel, with an extended maceration on the skins, 60 days. Aged for 2 years, the 1st year in 1000L botticelle and the 2nd year in 3000L botti. Aged an additional 6 months in bottle and released in March 2018.”
Tasting Notes: Garnet in colour, with aromas of cherry, licorice, dusty earth, clove and candied violet. Silky layers of red currant, wild strawberry, cherry, white pepper, streak of tarry earth along with tangy acidity are framed by robust tannins. Licorice, mint and red berries linger on the plush finish.
