Estate: Founded in the late 1700’s, Pecchenino is a family estate that has been handed down from father to son for generations. It is currently headed by brothers Orlando and Attilio Pecchenino and comprises 25 hectares.
Winemaking: With Orlando’s belief that “the quality of his wine is strictly related to the natural health of his vineyard”, there is a focus of growing grapes with the lowest possible impact on nature. They practice organic, sustainable farming without the use of any chemicals, and only native, natural yeasts are used in order to preserve the characteristics and personality of the grapes.
Vineyards are located in the Dogliani region of the Langhe, at 450 meters in elevation, planted in 1996, with calcareous soils. From the US importer, Vias Imports Ltd.: “Fermentation in stainless steel for 20 days at 29 ° C. Maceration on the skins for 20 days with pumping over every 34 hours”. Aged for 6 months in large 25 Hl oak barrels, followed by 6 months in the bottle before release.
Tasting Notes: Transparent ruby in colour, with aromas of strawberry, cherry, fennel and rain-washed rock. Strawberry, raspberry, cherry, violet, white pepper, tarry earth minerality and fresh acidity are framed by black tea tannins. Red currant and cherry linger on the spice driven finish. A fantastic value.
