Estate: Brother and sister team Federico and Beatrice Tiberi are the 4th generation to farm the family land in Monte Petriolo, Umbria. They grew up working in the vineyards alongside their grandfather Cesare. Today he is their “sage and a family treasure”, assisting them with the move to estate bottling and commercial sales of their wine in 2015. They also receive guidance from their renowned neighbor, “master natural wine-whisperer, eno-artisan”, Danilo Marcucci.
Located 350 meters in elevation, on a southwest facing slope of a hill facing Lake Trasimeno, the 3.5 hectares of native Umbrian grapes are dispersed through several small plots around the family home and winery. Soils are a combination of rocky schist, marne and galestro. Farming is low intervention, organic and follows the phases of the moon.
Philosophy: “Respect for nature and tradition are the true secret of a good wine. We go along with his times and let our work be marked by the moon and the seasons.”
Winemaking: “De-stemmed, 2 days skin contact. Basket pressed. Natural ferment in open top vats w/o temperature control, yeast or sulfur. Aged in combination of stainless steel and resin tanks.” Bottled in late Spring, unfiltered.
Tasting Notes: Gold in colour, with aromas of lemon, hay, wildflowers and a wisp of funk. Mango, nectarine, plum, saline minerality and a nutty streak are glossed by citrus acidity. Apricot, hard lemon candy, butterscotch and orange rind comprise the lengthy, creamy finish. Engaging, exciting, mercurial.
