Estate: Dating back to the 14th century, the Glögglhof estate sits at the edge of the city Bozen/Bolzano, south of the Dolomites. The Gojer family [Franz, Maria Luise and their son Florian] respect and continue the estate’s winemaking history that stretches back many generations. Franz and Florian are dedicated to cultivating indigenous varietals. They practice sustainable agriculture in harmony with nature, with minimal intervention in the cellar.
Philosophy: “Our underlying principle is “Quality starts in the vineyard”. We do our best to preserve it by our gentle technique in the cellar. This way we create both authentic and outstanding wines.”
Winemaking: Grapes are hand harvested from vineyards 600 meters above sea level. Soils are light, sandy porphyry based with ice age deposits of granite, basalt and gneiss. “The old vines with naturally little yield, small berries and the exposed south-facing slope allow the grape to fully mature.” Fermented in stainless steel tanks, bottled in April.
Tasting Notes: Ruby red in colour, with aromas of dusty earth, spice, haybarn, cherry, wildflowers, bramble, forest floor and strawberry. All of the cherries [red, black and sour], raspberry, bramble, black pepper and earth are supported by fresh acidity and silky tannins. Red fruit and spice linger on the dry finish. Rustic and gluggable.
