Estate: Leonardo Bussoletti passionately cultivates native grapes in Narni, southern Umbria. His 7 hectares of certified organically farmed vineyards are mostly of Ciliegiolo [4 hectares], with some Grechetto and Trebbiano. Dedicated to the preservation and identity of Ciliegiolo, Leonardo collaborated with the University of Milan, mapping old vineyards and identifying 30 clones of Ciliegiolo in Narnia alone.
Winemaking: The Ciliegiolo vineyard is 290 meters above sea level, with calcareous clay soils. “The vineyards are all facing north, in order to obtain wines that focus on elegance, rather than on power.” Vines are 5-15 years in age. Spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in stainless steel, aged 12 months on fine lees, 30% aged in large French oak barrels [25hl] for 9-12 months, followed by 6-7 months in the bottle.
Tasting Notes: Dark garnet in colour, with aromas of strawberry rhubarb pie, bramble and a trace of peppery spice. Pomegranate, raspberry, cherry , earth and white pepper glide across silky tannins and fresh acidity. Cranberry and spice linger on the sleek finish. Agile, pure and clean.
