Estate: Starting out in the steps of his father and grandfather, Graziano Prá is now a pioneer and innovator in the Soave region and recognized as “one of the most important and visionary white wine makers in all of Italy”. In addition to the estate’s renowned 30 hectares of vineyards in Soave, Graziano purchased and planted 7 hectares in Valpolicella in 2001. With his respect for the land, ancient soils and traditional varieties, Graziano is passionately dedicated to organic viticulture.
Winemaking: Grapes are hand harvested from vineyards in the sub-zones of Mezzane and Tregnano at 500 meters in elevation. The white soil was formed by ancient glacial runoff comprised of chalky rock, ancient clay and marine sand, schist and a high percentage of active limestone. “Grapes are slight dried (for about 20 days). The wine is then fermented in stainless steel where it then undergoes malolactic fermentation, aged in 20 HL botti (french oak – allier) for 3 to six months.”
Tasting Notes: Transparent garnet in colour, with aromas of cherry, strawberry, white pepper, tarry earth, bramble, smoke and roasted poblano pepper. Tasting very similar to the aromas, with cherry, red currant, strawberry, white pepper, roasted herbs and earth wrapped in smoky sea salt minerality, gliding atop sleek tannins and fresh acidity. Black currant and white pepper linger on the silky finish. Charismatic, bright and pure.
