Estate: Pojer e Sandri was founded in 1975 when Fiorentino Sandri inherited 2 hectares of vineyards in the alpine village of Faedo, in Trentino, northern Italy. He was joined by his friend, Mario Pojer, who had a degree in oenology from the San Michele Agricultural Institute [now the Edmund Mach Foundation].
Winemaking: The estate is farmed organically; wines are fermented with native yeasts. Vineyards are located on the steep slopes above Fadeo, 550-750 meters in elevation. The Palai vineyard faces southeast, with silty/calcareous soil over mixed marls. The vineyards benefit from the Ora del Garda; moderating breezes from Lake Garda. ‘Palai’ is their flagship wine, and considered by many as the “undisputed benchmark” of Müller Thurgau”.
Tasting Notes: Pale gold in colour with aromas of apple, lemon, lime, sage, honey, hay and white flowers. Tasting very similar to the aromas, with green apple, pear, herbs, lemon and white flowers glazed by racy acidity. Lime, melon, candied ginger and hay linger on the mineral driven finish. Lively and fresh.
