Estate: Cascina ‘Tavijn is located in the Monferrato hills in Piemonte, northwestern Italy. For over a century, Nadia Verrua’s family has been making wines in these hills north of Asti. The 10 hectare estate is farmed organically and with very little intervention. The land is divided equally between native grapes and hazelnut trees. Nadia officially heads the estate; her parents still work alongside her in the vineyards.
Winemaking: Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeast, no fining or filtering, minimal sulphur, if any at all.
Tasting Notes: Dark red-violet in colour, with aromas of cherry pie, plum, raisin, wildflowers, olive, and warm summer earth. Layered blackberry, plum, baked cherry, wild strawberry, summer woods, green olive, black pepper, baking spice and a trace of licorice drape over a frame of earth and peppery spice, complimented by fresh acidity and silky tannins. Morello cherry, black cherry, earth, spice and a whisper of bitterness linger between each plush sip. Engaging, intricate and friendly.
