Estate: Located inside Gargano National Park in Puglia, Valentina Passalacqua farms her family vines using biodynamic and organic methods. The 80 hectares of land was once thought to be so poor that only cattle were grazed on it. At 200 meters in elevation, the calcareous white rocky soil is complimented by Mediterranean climate. Passionate and expressive, just as her wines, check out her bio in her own words here.
Philosophy: “I make natural wine above all to sit down at the table with the people I love, drink my wines, enjoy the harmony with food and excite me…”
Winemaking: Vines are in limestone soil. Spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, unfined, unfiltered.
Tasting Notes: Ruby red in colour, with aromas of wildflowers, hay, red apple, cranberry, chalky minerality and earth. Pomegranate, cranberry, red currant, cherry, earth and a shake of white pepper glide atop an herbaceous undercurrent. Good acidity and green tea tannins are complimented by light frizzante. Black cherry and tangy fruit linger on the mineral driven finish. Engaging, refreshing and super gluggable.
