Domaine de l’Ecu Love and Grapes Nobis Syrah 2017

Brand: Love & Grapes is a project from biodynamic winemaker Fred Niger of the renowned Domaine de l’Ecu. He has partnered with organic and biodynamic grape growers throughout France and Italy to craft cuvées that express “purity of fruit, poise and precision”.

Philosophy: “To be drunk with no fuss and with friends!”

Winemaking: Grapes are from a certified organic and biodynamic, 2 hectare vineyard near the villages of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Orange and Vaison-la-Romaine in the Southern Rhône. Vines are 25-30 years in age, south facing and in clay dominated soil. Gravity pumped, wild yeast fermentation in stainless steel, vinified without sulfur [30mg of total SO2 added before the bottling], no fining or filtration, aged in stainless steel. This is the first vintage, only 1250 cases produced.

Tasting Notes: Red violet in colour with aromas of cherry, blackberry, raspberry, violet, forest floor, peppery spice and a trace of mesquite. Black cherry, blueberry, raspberry, cured meat, crushed black peppercorn, and a trace of eucalyptus drape around a smoky core. Good acidity and silky tannins fuse with spice, tobacco, dark fruit and a wisp of smoke on the plush finish. Well balanced, compelling and lush.
