Estate: Casanova della Spinetta is located in the heart of Toscana, in the hills south of Pisa. Giorgio Rivetti, of Piemonte fame, recently purchased neighboring estates and vineyards, uniting them into one 65 hectare estate. His focus is to produce wins exclusively from indigenous Toscana varieties, such as Sangiovese and Toscano Vermentino. For details on the acquisition and viticulture philosophy, click here. Vineyards are farmed without the use of chemicals, 75% are farmed using biodynamic principles.
Philosophy: “Making wine with passion.”
Winemaking: Grapes were sourced from a 6 hectare vineyard with southern exposure, at 300 meters in elevation. [From the same vineyard and grapes that are used for ‘Il Nero’ and ‘Il Gentile’ wines.]
Tasting Notes: Pale coral in colour with aromas of grapefruit, white flowers, wild berries and Mediterranean herbs. Delicate pear, wild berries, honeydew melon and pink grapefruit are glossed by fresh acidity. Crisp minerality along with an herbaceous undercurrent accents citrus zest, wild flowers and green tea on the crisp finish. Elegant and airy.
50% Sangiovese, 50% Prugnolo Gentile [The biotype of Sangiovese used in Brunello di Montalcino wines.]
