Estate: Founded by Gino Scarbolo in the 1950s, the estate is located in the eastern hills of Friuli, in the village of Lauzacc. Gino grew up working with his family farming as sharecroppers for a wine estate. Upon purchasing his own land, he grew grapes and sold his wines locally in bulk. His son Valter worked alongside him, falling in love with the “magic” of grape growing. After studying viticulture and oenology, in 1982 he began bottling the estate’s wines. Today, his children Lara and Mattia work with him. The tractor wheel [depicted on the label] is the family’s symbol, representing “the concept of the process of becoming. Wheels entail being powerful and having the energy to advance forward, overcoming all the obstacles, steep climbs and, sharp bends, by adopting a dynamic approach all the way”. The estate is certified “SQNPI”, which is an integrated, sustainable, environmentally respectful farming method.
Philosophy: “Keep the wheels turning.”
Winemaking: Grapes are from the ‘Lara’ [planted 1993] and ‘Camposanto’ [planted 2004] vineyards, both with clay loam soil. Soft pressing of 50% of the whole clusters, the remaining fruit is destemmed and left on the skins for 24 hours of cold maceration before pressing. Fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Aged on the noble lees in stainless steel tanks with frequent batonnages.
Tasting Notes: Light gold in colour with aromas of tomato leaf, pineapple and pink grapefruit. Pineapple, pear, green apple, herbs, a streak of clean minerality and orange zest are framed by bright acidity. Tomato leaf and grapefruit linger between each silky sip. A refreshing balance of fruit and green notes.
Pairing Suggestions from the Winery: Enjoy as an aperitif or pair with fish, soups, and herbed frittatas. Perfect with prosciutto and cantaloupe.
