Estate: An award-winning property since the beginning of the 18th century, since 1870 the estate has belonged to the Alessandria family. Today owner Gian Battista, his wife Flavia, brother Alessandro and his son Vittore passionately carry on in their family’s traditions. Historically a Barolo producing winery, the 12 hectares stretch across some of the very best crus in Verduno and Monforte. In addition to Nebbiolo, they cultivate indigenous varieties such as Dolcetto, Barbera and Pelaverga.
Winemaking: Vineyards are farmed using organic methods. Grapes are from 20 year old vines in calcareous limestone soil. Fermented 6-8 days in stainless steel, aged 5-6 months in stainless steel and cement tanks, followed by 1-2 months in the bottle before release.
Tasting Notes: Dark ruby red in colour, with aromas of rose petal, wild cherry, chipotle pepper, orange peel and a trace of almond. Tangy cherry, pomegranate, cranberry and crushed black peppercorn are framed by fresh acidity and silky tannins. Rose petal, tangy fruit and licorice linger on the dry finish. Fresh and engaging.
