Winery: Avi Deixler only began making wine in 2016, and he is already renowned for his progressive approach and expressive wines. His wine education came from working with legendary natural winemakers Olivier and Baptiste Cousin in Anjou. Avi’s vines [Syrah, Carignan, and Petit Sirah] are in the Poor Ranch vineyard in Mendocino, an old dairy farm in Point Reyes functions as his winery. Low intervention is used in both the vineyard and cellar, vines are farmed organically and biodynamically.
Winemaking: Hand harvested grapes are from dry farmed, 10 year old vines. Vinified in oak, aged 6 months in raw, American oak [Avi also does his own cooperage.] No added sulphur, unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Notes: Red violet in colour with aromas of red and black fruit, peppery spice and stone minerality. Lightly fizzy with rich cherry, raspberry, blackberry, plum, chipotle pepper and earthy minerality supported by good acidity and firm tannins. Rich fruit, vanilla and peppery spice linger on the velvety finish. Agile yet powerful, sleek yet rustic.
