Estate: Founded in 2002 by an organic fruit and vegetable company, Pierpaolo Messina has been the winemaker and manager since 2007. Located in southeastern Sicily, in the heart of Noto valley, the 30 hectares of vines are cultivated with organic and biodynamic methods. “Every stage of production takes place in the respect of nature, without the use of chemicals in vineyards or in the cellar.” The estate is certified organic.
Philosophy: “Our mission is to work in harmony with mother nature, by observing her laws, protecting and respecting the balance of her habitat, thus producing wines that are free from synthetic chemicals from the vineyard to the cellar, while ensuring that they are an expression of the territory in which they were born.”
Winemaking: Grapes are from vines in finely textured white, calcareous limestone soil. Vinified in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts, on the skins for about 15 days, aged in stainless steel, bottled in the Spring following the harvest [carried out according to the lunar phases]. Unfined. ‘Muscatedda’ is the local name of the first vineyard that is harvested.
Tasting Notes: Deep gold in colour with aromas of nectarine, apricot, honey, white flowers and citrus. Fresh, balancing acidity supports juicy peach, apricot and nectarine flavours. Mandarin orange, saline minerality and a trace of bitter nuts linger on the dry finish. Refreshing and engaging.
