Estate: Francesco Rinaldi e Figli is one of the most famous names in Piemonte. Established in 1870 by Giovanni Rinaldi, his son Francesco became a legendary figure in Barolo. The estate has been passed down to each generation, today it is headed by Paola and Piera Rinaldi. With vineyards in Barolo, Castiglione Falletto and La Morra, they embody the best in Barolo. The estate is famed for crafting wines that embrace history and tradition, and are “beautiful, classic expressions of their underlying terroirs”. Although not certified, they practice organic viticulture.
Winemaking: Grapes are from the 1 hectare Roussot vineyard in the Cannubi cru, from vines planted between 1975 -1977. Soils are a mix of clay, calcareous and silica. Vinified in stainless steel tanks with skin contact fermentation for about 15 days, followed by 6 months ageing in stainless steel and an additional 6 months in the bottle.
Tasting Notes: Red -violet in colour, very aromatic with cherry, black cherry, rose petal, mocha, anise, black pepper and a trace of leather. Blackberry, black cherry, raspberry, red currant, a trace of smoky earth are framed by silky tannins and fresh acidity. A hint of exotic spices fuse with bitter almond on the plush finish. Well structured, well balanced, just fantastic.
