Estate: Eric Pfifferling and his wines are legendary. His wines have somewhat of a cult status, elusive and difficult to find. When you do find them, snatch them up because they won’t be there for long. Up until 2002 Eric worked the family property, selling his grapes to a local cooperative. A former beekeeper, he realized the full potential of his exceptional terroir and extremely old vines, located in the heart of Tavel, on the east side of the Rhône River. Certified organic, vines and harvests are all done by hand, he “avoids all manipulation in the winery, meaning no added yeast, enzymes, or sulfur”.
Tasting Notes: Deep gold in colour with aromas of mandarin orange, clove, lemon tart, candied ginger, sweet hay and geranium. Baked red apple, citrus, apricot, clove, cinnamon and honey are glossed with clean minerality and fresh acidity. The finish mirrors the aromas with lemon tart, geranium, clove, citrus zest, and a squeeze of mandarin orange. Lush, big, sunny, buttery, just gorgeous.
