Il Censo ‘Praruar’ Bianco Terre Siciliane IGT 2015

Estate: Gaetano Gargano’s family has owned Il Censo for over 200 years. Located in Bivona in south/central Sicily, the 65 hectare estate was primarily for farming grains and legumes. Gaetano Gargano and his wife Nicoletta have rejuvenated the property, revitalizing the old vine vineyards of Perricone and Malvasia Nera, along with 100 year old olive groves. Working closely with pioneering winemaker and co-founder of ViniVeri, Giampiero Bea, Gaetano has planted 9 hectares of vineyards, all with indigenous grapes; Catarratta, Perricone, Nero d’Avola and Malvasia Nera.

Wines are produced organically and with low intervention; only indigenous yeasts are used, not temperature stabilization, no fining, no filtering. For a brief overview of the happenings at Il Censo, check out: “Il Censo” New Releases over at Rosenthal Wine Merchant.

Tasting Notes: Deep gold in color, very aromatic, with apricot, apple, lemon, orange, clove, nuts, honey and pie crust. Silky apple, baked pear, orange, lemon, apricot, honey and ginger are accented by fresh acidity and gentle green tea tannins. Clove, a trace of chamomile and a streak of smoky minerality linger on the dry finish. Complex, silky and engaging.
