Estate: The Vezzoli family has been making wine for nearly a century in the heart of Franciacorta, in Lombardy, northern Italy. The estate consists of 50 hectares of vineyards, spread across 7 townships in Franciacorta. Giuseppe Vezzoli’s sparkling wines are known for their elegance and refinement. For over 20 years they have been producing classic method Franciacorta using the SoloUva (JustGrapes) method, in which frozen grape must is used as the sugar during tirage and dosage, rather than cane sugar]. For more information on this method in Franciacorta wines, check out Jeremy Parzen’s article A new & revolutionary Franciacorta: Solo Uva, made exclusively with grape sugar, and for the specifics, the Vezzoli SoloUva page here.
Without the addition of sugar, grape and terroir are allowed their purest form of expression. The family believes “that this production method is the path that will lead to a rediscovery of our appellation’s distinctive character and the wines that are produced from our vineyards”.
Winemaking: The base wine goes thru the first fermentation in steel tanks, where it spends 8 months, followed by bottling, where it spends 36 months on the lees. After disgorging, the wines refine further in the bottle.
Tasting Notes: Gold in colour with aromas of lemon, yellow apple, honey, almond, brioche and clean minerality. Delicate flavours of lemon, pear, candied ginger and minerals are framed by citrus acidity and fine, consistent bubbles. Lemon, pink grapefruit, honeysuckle and buttery toast linger between each fizzy sip. Elegant, cheerful and graceful.
