Estate: Pioneering winemaker Michele Satta began working in vineyards of Bolgheri, in southwestern Tuscany in the 1970’s, in 1987 he purchased the best available land and built a cellar. He had a vision of crafting wines “that could be faithful to the wake created by Sassicaia and Ornellaia, but also to my personal vision and experience of the vineyard. Hence, the need to plant alongside the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, grapes that I thought could express even better the Bolgheri Mediterranean terroir; Sangiovese and Syrah”. He was the first winemaker to plant Syrah, Teroldego and Viognier vines in Bolgheri. Today the estate consists of 23 hectares of vines, and Michele is passionately assisted by the next generation, his 2 children, Giacomo and Benedetta.
Philosophy: “This is the character with which we intend to make wine:
the continuous search for quality as the expression of the unique and unrepeatable nature of the vineyard and its encounter with the man”.
Winemaking: Fermented with indigenous yeasts, aged in large oak casks 3, 4 and 5 years in age.
Tasting Notes: Dark transparent ruby red in colour. Very aromatic, with plum, blackberry, black cherry, strawberry, woodsy oak, peppery spice, cinnamon, orange peel and Tuscan underbrush. Silky layers of blackberry, cranberry, black cherry, baked plum, fennel pollen, oregano and crushed black peppercorn are supported by velvety tannins and fresh acidity. Fruit and spice linger on the lengthy, plush finish. Silky smooth and refined, great balance and structure, lovely on its own or with a wide variety of dishes.
