Le Briseau ‘Patapon’ Vin de France 2016

Estate: Winemaker Christian Chaussard and Nathalie Gaubicher, a Swiss actress, oenologist and sommelier, founded Domaine Le Briseau in 2002. The 11 hectares of vineyards are located in the Jasnières/Coteaux-du-Loir area of northern Touraine in the Loire Valley.

“In September 2012, Christian was tragically killed in a tractor accident. His influence on the Loire valley and the natural wine movement as a whole (he was president of the AVN, “Association des Vins Naturels” for 5 years) has been crucial in shaping a new generation of forward thinking vignerons.” Nathalie continues their work at the estate.

Winemaking: The vineyards are farmed by hand and using organic and biodynamic methods. The soil is predominately clay and silica over limestone.

Tasting Notes: Transparent garnet in colour, with complex, layered aromatics of cinnamon, chocolate, mint, cranberry, cherry, dusty earth, candied violet and black pepper. Tart fruit [cranberry, pomegranate, red currant] fuses with raspberry, cherry, wildflowers, crushed black peppercorn, citrus acidity and firm tannins. A squeeze of lip-smacking red grapefruit pops on the dry finish. Refreshing, engaging and oh so gluggable.
