Castelfeder ‘Lahn’ Kerner Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2016

Estate: Castelfeder Winery was founded in 1969 by Alfons Giovanett. In 1989, his son Günther Giovanett took over the estate. He purchased additional vineyards and relocated the operations to the neighboring small village of Kurtinig/Cortina, located in the very south of Alto Adige, northern Italy. The 60 hectares of vineyards are spread from Salorno to Bolzano. Today Günther and his wife Alessandra are joined by their children, Ivan and Ines in running the estate. The family is known for their crisp, fresh white wines such as Kerner, Muller Thurgau and Gewürztraminer, along with indigenous red wines Lagrein and Schiava [Vernatsch].

Winemaking: Kerner grapes [a cross between Schiava and Riesling] are hand harvested from vineyards 900 meters above sea level, with sand and gravel soils. Fermented in stainless steel, aged for 6 months on fine lees.

Tasting Notes: Pale gold in colour with bright aromas of lemon, pear, apricot, tomato leaf and candied ginger. Lemon, melon, apple, fresh herbs and honeysuckle are wrapped in racy acidity. Finishing crisp and fruity. Super refreshing and gluggable!
