Estate: Brothers Paolo and Lorenzo Marchionni founded their winery in the land they grew up in, the hills just southwest of Florence, in Chianti Colli Fiorentini. Learning from their parents, friends and neighboring farmers, they believe in little intervention in the vineyard and cellar, farm organically and have been certified since 2011. The 7 hectares of vineyards are located on steep slopes with mixed limestone, marl, sand and loose clay soils.
Foundation: “If we only and exclusively entrust ourselves to the “technique”, we could not free in that fruit and wine its soul and its territorial root.”
Winemaking: ‘L’erta’ [meaning “steep ascent”] is the “cru” wine of the estate, it is only made in the best vintages. Grapes are hand selected row by row from the best parcels, spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel and cement tanks, aged 14 months in barrels, then 6 months in cement tanks, followed by 14 months in the bottle. Unfiltered and unfined.
Tasting Notes: Transparent garnet in colour with aromas of strawberry rhubarb pie, black cherry, rose petal. Grippy tannins and fresh acidity frame black cherry, plum, pomegranate, leather, clove and floral notes. Fruit and spice linger between each robust sip. A genteel and rustic expression of Sangiovese.
