Estate: Massimiliano Calabretta is the 4th generation of his family to craft wines on the steep slopes of Mt Etna in Sicily. He follows the centuries old traditions of the volcanic region, protecting and maintain the land, using only organic methods and minimal intervention. Check out the Calabretta site for history and vineyard details here.
Winemaking: Grapes are grown by a friend of Massimiliano’s; hand harvested from vines are on the slopes of Mt Etna at 750 meters in elevation. Fermented and aged [for about 6 months] in stainless steel.
“Cala Cala means “Gulp, Gulp” says Massimiliano, meaning you should gulp this one down because it’s so tasty!”
Tasting Notes: Light gold in colour with subtle aromas of lemon and minerals. Lemon, fresh herbs and flinty minerals are framed by racy acidity. Almond and a drizzle of honey linger between each sip. Sunny, clean and refreshing.
