Estate: Located on the easternmost Canary Island of Lanzarote, Los Bermejos is headed by pioneering winemaker Ignacio Valdera. Between the extreme climate and the lava and ash soil that runs 3-5 meters deep, winemaking is incredibly labor intensive, with minimal amounts of wine produced. However, the pre-phylloxera vines produce incredibly pure, expressive wines.
Winemaking: The estate practices organic and sustainable viticulture. Each vine is planted in a hole that is dug deep enough to reach the soil rich in nutrients that lies below the infertile volcanic crust. So Sci-Fi looking, like a vineyard on Mars, check out pics of these amazing vines at the Los Bermejos site here.
Tasting Notes: Bright copper pink in colour with aromas of tangy red fruits, watermelon rind, wildflowers and flinty minerals. Mineral driven, with a fusion of silky melon, strawberry and pomegranate glossed by citrus acidity. Flinty minerals and pink grapefruit linger between each refreshing sip. Fresh with a tangy bite, each sip leaves you craving for more.
